Jobs and the Economy

I recently left Florida and relocated to Fargo ND due to the lack of jobs there. I've been here now 3 weeks, filled out numerous job applications only to have 3 responses, 2 were negative and 1 is still open. All these jobs say Hiring Now, Start Today. But very untrue, first the application, then background check, if you get an interview which seems to be rare then a drug test. all very understandable. North Dakota is suppose to be booming with jobs, not just the oil fields but everwhere at 2% unemployment it's one of the lowest in the country. Florida is about 13% and they have Disney World and other areas of tourism. So what the hell is going on! I'm willing and able to work, is my age a big factor (51) in finding work, I have a good resume with a decent work history, but yet I still can't locate work. Yes I've tryed temp agencies, but the wages are low and don't pay the bills, so I'm at my wits end.

About not getting younger

What does it take to get a job? I've gone to school to better myself (vocation school) in a field that I thought would be hiring, Marine Mechanics in Fl only to find out they are looking for experienced mechanics not someone right out of school. So I've been looking elsewhere to no avail, most companies are only taking applications online and don't return an answer. The price of gas makes it hard if not impossible to go to an interview, if you get one. I've exhausted all monies that I have and am recieving food stamps which is helpful. Since looking for work I am trying to get my CDL back, but have not driven semi trucks in 16 years, so I must return back to driving school to get my license in the sum of $6,300 or a cosigner. The money paid to the school will be refunded once I get a job and work for a company for at least one year (company reinbursment). I can live on the road and have done it before, my license is clean with no accidents or speeding tickets, not even a parking ticket. If someone has an answer I would most grateful. Thankyou.

Dinner with the President

Dear Mr. President. Thank you for the invitation to dinner, I would be honored, but I can't make it. I know it's only a $3.00 donation, but i'm unemployed at this time and going to school to better myself. The great state of Illinois decided to stop my unemploment insurance when I mentioned I was in school. Therefore to pay for my education and living expenses, I have depleted all of my retirement funds, by the way i'm 51years old. As the saying goes... Honesty Pays... I think not. I've tryed it and it didn't work. Prices continue to go up and wages continue to go down. So Mr. President I hope you and your Guests have a great dinner, i'll be having Ramen noodles maybe..

once again the holidays among us,tis the time of giving(helping one another).im tired of asking for aid to help my financial woes, now im requesting the fine government of the united states to give aid to better all of the hard working americans that got you into office.without them you couldnt afford the way you live, now i know you toiled to get where you are at the expense(taxes)of fellow citizens that elected you.but dont we deserve honest answers,i have read many letters on aid page and realized my problems are miscule.people are asking,if not begging for some sort relief to their situations.im sure to no avail since your time is so filled with other obligations.the constitution states"we the people",not we the elected,so once again ill say.get off your duff(ass)and fix the problem, there is a solution lets not repeat the past, our future depends on it.

Aidpage Open Letter: scolarships and grants

i just looked up for the state rep in the area i live in,and found that person has a fan club.what the hell is going on a "fan club", we the tax payers are paying these people to do their job. im sure i dont have one or any time soon, im living a day to day life like so many others. plus you got to love their campains, with terms paid for by such and such. not true we the people pay for it, now get off your duff and HELP THE PEOPLE, earn your money. there is a reason your being paid and maybe, just maybe you will EARN that respect. not a fan club. signed, not getting younger

i recently relocated from illiois, land of political corruption.the main reason for this move is to return back to school, ive enrolled and been accepted at mmi.the last time i was in school was 1979,ive been trying to get help from scolarships and grants to aid in my finances, since im unemployed and living on my retirement funds.all i have recieved is mostly crap, advertisments saying you must make a purchase to continue.i am forunate to have a computer, else this would be total mayhem.i know there has to be a better way to get honest information without all the bull.i would be gratefull if you would have an answer,im sure im not the only one.thank you,   signed not getting younger

About not getting younger

3 weeks ago i was living in harvard, il. a farming community nw of chicago, like so many other people the economy hit hard. i decided to return to school after a 31 yr of absence and losing my job of 14 yrs.i relocated to orlando, fl. where im enrolled at a tech school to further my edcation and hopefully broaden my horizons. being 50 yrs old someone younger has a better chance of landing a job that im more qualified for. this is not easy for the baby boomers generation,as i said before retirement is not an option nor will it be. i have many skills but in most fields they are not hiring. this is my only option
